According to the police investigation, the brutal assault stemmed from the husband's baseless suspicions. Hanuman Sonawale, who was unemployed and struggled with alcoholism, frequently quarreled with his wife, Rajshri, doubting her fidelity. The violent episode unfolded in the early hours of December 1 at the family's residence in Dahisar East. Rajshri and the couple's young daughter were asleep when Sonawale returned home late. Police reports state that in the darkness of the room, he first attacked his sleeping daughter, slashing her on the neck with the blade.

The child woke up in fright upon sensing blood oozing from the wound and turned on the lights. Undeterred, Sonawale then turned his rage towards his wife, Rajshri, and slashed her on the stomach. Her screams for help raised an alarm, leading to Sonawale being overpowered by others and subsequently handed over to the police.

Severe Injuries and Legal Repercussions

The injuries inflicted were severe. The police confirmed that the young daughter's neck wound required five stitches. Both victims received medical treatment for their grievous injuries. The Dahisar Police acted swiftly, taking the accused into custody and booking him under the stringent charge of attempted murder.
