Bareilly Man Tragically Dragged 8km Under Vehicle with UP Govt Sticker in Budaun
In a horrific incident that has shocked the Bareilly region, a 38-year-old man was dragged for nearly eight kilometers after his body became trapped between the front wheels of a car bearing a "UP govt" sticker in Budaun on Friday evening. The victim, identified as Ghlendra Kumar, was a resident of Rampur Majra village in the Bilsi area.
Severe Injuries and Identification Through Aadhaar Card
Police officials reported that Kumar's body was found severely mutilated, with skin and flesh torn off and bones exposed, indicating he was likely tugged for an extended period by the moving vehicle. He was identified through his Aadhaar card discovered in his pocket, which helped authorities notify his family. The body was later found on the road near Lalpul crossing under Kotwali police limits.
Driver Details and Unawareness Claim
The car was being driven by Parvendra Pratap Singh, a mandi committee official and Budaun resident who runs a fertiliser and seed shop in Asrasi under Qadarchowk. Singh stated to police that he was returning home after closing his shop amid heavy rainfall and was completely unaware of the body stuck beneath his vehicle.
He claimed that another motorist overtook him at Lalpul crossing around 7:30 PM and alerted him to the situation. Upon stopping the vehicle, locals quickly gathered at the spot and informed the police, leading to immediate intervention.
Police Investigation and CCTV Footage Examination
Kotwali police promptly reached the site, seized the car, and took Singh into custody for questioning. The body was sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities are currently investigating whether Kumar was directly hit by Singh's car or if he was earlier run over by another unidentified vehicle and subsequently got stuck underneath the government-marked car.
Police added that CCTV footage from nearby routes is being thoroughly examined to piece together the sequence of events and establish the facts of this tragic case.
Official Statement and Family's Anguish
City Circle Officer, Rajnish Kumar Upadhyay, stated, "Around 8 PM, we received information that a body was stuck under a car. The vehicle was seized and the driver detained. The deceased was identified and the family was informed. Further legal action is underway."
The victim's younger brother, Pushpendra, revealed that Kumar worked as a mason and was a father of four children. "He went with his children to his brother-in-law's place for a feast. Later, we received a call saying he came under a vehicle. It was raining heavily, and we don't know what exactly happened," Pushpendra said, expressing the family's confusion and grief over the sudden loss.
This incident has raised serious questions about road safety and awareness, particularly during adverse weather conditions, with the investigation ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding Kumar's tragic death.
