A 56-year-old construction worker was charred to death when a cooking gas cylinder exploded at his residence near Red Hills in the early hours of Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Paranthaman, a resident of the Targas area in Angadu.
Family left after dispute
According to police, Paranthaman was addicted to alcohol and frequently quarreled with his family. On Wednesday afternoon, following a heated argument, his wife Selvi, along with their two daughters and son, left the house and took shelter at her mother's residence.
Earlier that day, a new LPG cylinder had been delivered to the house. Paranthaman returned home late at night in an intoxicated state and was alone. Around midnight, the cylinder exploded, and the ensuing fire engulfed the house.
Paranthaman, who was asleep at the time, could not escape and died on the spot.
Rescue and investigation
Upon receiving information, fire and rescue personnel rushed to the scene, extinguished the flames, and recovered the charred body. The Red Hills police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations into the incident.
