A dinner invitation meant to foster reconciliation took a violent turn in Bhavnagar, leading to a police case of assault and forcible separation. A 24-year-old man has accused his in-laws of attacking him and his parents before taking away his wife against her will.
Love Marriage Faces Family Opposition
The complainant, identified as Yash Upadhyay, a resident of Rasnal village in Botad district, married Piya, daughter of Parvat Mordiya, about a month ago. According to police, the union was a love marriage, which the bride's family had initially opposed. The couple reportedly first connected through Instagram approximately five years ago, developed a friendship, and later entered into a romantic relationship.
Despite the early resistance, Upadhyay stated that communication lines had recently opened. He claimed there were frequent phone conversations involving him, his wife, and her father. During these calls, his father-in-law extended an invitation for a family meal, seemingly an olive branch.
The Fateful Dinner and Alleged Assault
Acting on this invitation, Yash Upadhyay, along with his wife Piya and his parents, visited his in-laws' residence at Iskcon Megacity in Bhavnagar on Tuesday. What was anticipated as a peaceful settlement gathering quickly descended into chaos.
Upadhyay alleges that during the visit, his in-laws began pressuring Piya to stay back at her parental home. When she refused, the situation escalated dramatically. The complainant claims he and his parents were then assaulted by his in-laws. The alleged attackers included his wife's father, Parvat Mordiya, her uncle Hitesh Mordiya, and three other unidentified individuals.
Wife Forcibly Taken, FIR Registered
The complaint details a harrowing sequence of events. It states that Piya was forcibly made to sit in a car and taken away from the scene. Meanwhile, Upadhyay and his parents were restrained and threatened with death if they tried to resist. Following the violent altercation, the injured party was taken to Bhavnagar Civil Hospital for medical treatment.
Subsequently, Yash Upadhyay filed a formal complaint at the Nilambaug police station. Based on his allegations, the police have registered an FIR under sections 140(3), 115(2), 351(2), and 54 of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The named accused in the FIR are father-in-law Parvat Mordiya, Hitesh Mordiya, and the three unidentified persons.
Authorities have confirmed that a case is now officially registered and a further investigation is currently underway to verify the allegations and apprehend all involved.
