In a coordinated operation by a police team and the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), one accused was arrested after the recovery of two illegal firearms and ammunition in Phagwara city. The joint effort highlights the ongoing crackdown on illicit weapons in the region.
Details of the Operation
Phagwara SP Madhvi Sharma said on Tuesday that a joint team, including AGTF Jalandhar personnel and other police staff, was conducting checking near a T-point close to the Mehru School area. The team was on duty as part of surveillance and search operations targeting suspected offenders. The operation was meticulously planned to intercept individuals involved in illegal activities.
Suspicious Movement Leads to Arrest
SP Sharma stated that during the operation, police noticed a young man moving suspiciously towards a nearby shop. Upon spotting the police party, he attempted to hide among bushes but was quickly intercepted on suspicion. He was identified as Inderdip Singh alias Inder, a resident of Nashirabad under the Rawalpindi police jurisdiction. The swift action by the police prevented any potential escape.
Recovery of Weapons
During the search, police recovered one country-made pistol along with a .30 bore pistol and a magazine from his bag. The accused failed to produce any valid licence or permit for the weapons, leading to his immediate arrest. The seizure of these firearms is a significant step in curbing the illegal arms trade in the area.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Arms Act and are investigating further to trace the source of the weapons. This operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement to maintain public safety and order.
