Man arrested with brown sugar near Indore's Gutkeshwar temple

In a significant drug bust, the Indore Crime Branch apprehended a man in possession of a substantial quantity of narcotics near a prominent city temple. The arrest occurred following a routine patrol that led to the discovery of 12.40 grams of brown sugar, valued at a staggering Rs 1.20 lakh in the international market.

Suspicious Behaviour Leads to Arrest on VIP Road

The incident unfolded on Monday when a police team was conducting a standard patrol and tracking suspects in the vicinity of the Gutkeshwar Mahadev temple on VIP Road. Officers noticed an individual acting in a suspicious manner, which immediately drew their attention.

Upon being questioned, the man exhibited clear signs of nervousness, prompting the police to detain him for further investigation. He identified himself as Vikas, also known as Sardar Saude, a resident of Chhatripura in Indore.

Search Reveals Narcotics, Accused Confesses to Trade

A subsequent search of Vikas led to the recovery of the illicit substance. During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed details of his operation to the police. Vikas, who works as a daily wage driver and is educated up to Class 10, provided a motive rooted in financial gain.

He confessed that his modus operandi involved purchasing narcotic substances at relatively low rates and then selling them across the city to earn a higher profit margin. This admission points to a calculated attempt to engage in drug peddling as a source of income.

Case Registered Under Stringent NDPS Act

Following the seizure and interrogation, the Indore Crime Branch took formal legal action. A case has been registered against Vikas at the Crime Branch police station under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

This law is known for its stringent penalties for the production, possession, and sale of banned substances. The police action underscores ongoing efforts to curb the drug trade in the region, particularly in areas of public gathering.

The arrest near a religious site highlights the concerning reach of such illicit activities. Authorities continue to investigate to determine if the accused was part of a larger network or operated independently.
