Police in Bihar's Samastipur district have taken a 30-year-old man into custody following serious allegations of sexual assault against his own teenage niece, who is both deaf and mute. The arrest was made after a formal complaint was lodged detailing the traumatic incident.
Details of the Alleged Assault
According to the official complaint, the incident took place on December 15. The survivor was reportedly sent to an agricultural field to fetch a spade. It was during this errand that the accused, her 30-year-old uncle, allegedly intercepted her.
The accused is said to have taken the teenager to his house, where he then raped her. Despite the horrific nature of the attack and her inability to speak or hear, the brave young girl managed to escape from the location.
Complaint and Police Action
After escaping, the survivor informed her family members about the assault by using gestures. Once her family understood what had transpired, they accompanied her to the police station to file a formal complaint against the accused relative.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police arrested the accused man. Following the arrest, both the survivor and the accused were sent for a medical examination, which is a standard procedural step in such cases to collect forensic evidence.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Samastipur police officials have confirmed that the accused is now in custody and that further legal proceedings are currently underway. The case highlights the vulnerability of persons with disabilities and the heinous crimes they can face, even from within their own families.
The police are investigating all aspects of the case to ensure a strong charge sheet is filed. The community has been shaken by the event, calling for swift justice and stricter protection for the most vulnerable sections of society.
