In a shocking incident from Gujarat's Porbandar district, a 25-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged murder of a 43-year-old farmer using an illegal country-made firearm. The victim, identified as Bharat Odedra, was shot while driving his tractor on December 10.
The Fatal Attack on a Farmer
According to police reports, the tragic event unfolded when Bharat Odedra was driving his tractor in the Gosa village area. A labourer named Sunil Manji was seated in the trolley behind him. Sunil reported hearing a sudden sound similar to a firecracker burst. Immediately after the sound, Bharat Odedra cried out in pain, stopped the tractor, and collapsed over the steering wheel.
He was rushed to a government hospital in Porbandar, but doctors could not save him and declared him dead. A subsequent postmortem examination revealed the cause of death: a gunshot wound to his right leg. Investigators recovered a bullet from the wound, confirming the use of a firearm.
Police Investigation and Arrest
The Porbandar police's local crime branch swiftly launched an investigation. Inspector R K Kambariya, the in-charge officer, provided details of the probe. Police learned that villagers in Gosa had hired Kasam Khari and his nephew, Sajan Khari, from the Lakhtar area of Surendranagar district, as guards for their fields.
"After the murder, both men were found to be missing from the village, which raised suspicion," stated Inspector Kambariya. Utilizing a combination of human intelligence and technical surveillance, police teams traced the suspects back to Lakhtar in Surendranagar.
Kasam Khari was apprehended and has allegedly confessed to firing the shot from a country-made firearm. His nephew's involvement is also under scrutiny as the investigation continues. Police are now working to apprehend Sajan Khari.
Ongoing Probe and Unanswered Questions
The arrested accused, Kasam Khari, is set to be produced before a court where police will seek his remand for further questioning. The investigation is now focusing on several critical aspects:
- The motive behind the killing, as no prior enmity is known between the deceased and the accused.

- The source from whom the firearm was obtained.
