Man Arrested for Duping Patients at KGMU with Fake Trust and Forged Documents
In a significant development at King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow, a 26-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly defrauding patients and their attendants by impersonating a representative of a fictitious organization. The arrest followed a formal complaint from the university's Proctor Office, which detailed multiple criminal activities including cheating, forgery, and extortion.
Operation of a Fictitious Trust
According to police reports, the accused, identified as Hassam Ahmad, had been operating under the name 'Cardio Seva Sansthan,' a purported trust that does not exist. He allegedly extorted money from vulnerable patients and their family members under the false pretense of facilitating medical treatment and hospital services. Preliminary investigations indicate that several unsuspecting victims were targeted within the KGMU hospital premises, where they were approached with fraudulent offers of assistance.
Forgery of Official Documents
During the investigation, police uncovered that Ahmad had also forged the signature of Dr. KK Singh, a professor in the department of surgery and dean of paramedical studies at KGMU. Using this forged signature, he issued a fake notice to MBBS 2023 batch students, claiming that a medical conference would be held at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on April 29 and inviting students to participate. University authorities later confirmed that the notice was entirely fabricated and no such event was scheduled at AIIMS.
Potential Criminal Conspiracy Uncovered
Further scrutiny of the accused's mobile phone revealed multiple suspicious documents and digital records. Police officials stated that initial findings suggest Ahmad may have been attempting to lure MBBS students—particularly female students—under the pretext of academic conferences, with plans to take them to Delhi or other locations. This points towards a potentially serious criminal conspiracy that extended beyond financial fraud to include elements of deception and possible endangerment.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The arrest occurred when MBBS students apprehended Hassam Ahmad inside the KGMU campus and subsequently handed him over to the Chowk Police Station. DCP of the West Zone, Kamlesh Dixit, confirmed that based on the formal complaint signed by chief proctor Prof. RS Kushwaha, a case has been registered at Chowk police station under charges related to cheating, forgery, impersonation, and criminal breach of trust.
The accused, a native of Siddharthnagar district who was currently residing in Lucknow, is undergoing detailed interrogation by police authorities. The investigation continues as officials work to determine the full extent of his fraudulent activities and identify all victims affected by his schemes.
