Major IPS Reshuffle in Maharashtra: Satara SP Transferred

Major IPS Officer Reshuffle in Maharashtra Following Satara Election Incident

In a significant administrative move, the Maharashtra state home department executed a comprehensive reshuffle of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers on Monday. The transfers come amid political pressure following a controversial incident during the Satara Zilla Parishad (ZP) elections.

Satara SP Tushar Doshi Transferred After Ministers' Demand

The most notable transfer involves Satara Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Doshi, who has been moved to Sangli. This decision follows demands from local ministers for Doshi's suspension after they alleged being manhandled by police personnel during the recent Satara ZP election proceedings. Doshi's tenure as Satara SP lasted only 11 months, cut short by this development.

Replacing Doshi in Satara will be Nikhil Pingle, previously serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Pune. This appointment aims to bring fresh leadership to the district following the election controversy.

Widespread Transfers Across Multiple Districts

The reshuffle extends far beyond Satara, affecting police leadership across Maharashtra:

  • Kolhapur SP Yogeshkumar Gupta has been transferred to Gadchiroli, where he will assume the role of Deputy Inspector General.
  • Neelotpal, currently SP of Gadchiroli, will take charge as the new Kolhapur SP, filling the vacancy left by Gupta.
  • Sangli SP Sandip Ghuge has been appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Police in the State Intelligence Department based in Mumbai.
  • S Ramesh, Additional SP of Gadchiroli, has received a promotion to SP of Gadchiroli.
  • Maheshwar Reddy, SP of Jalgaon, will now serve as SP of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Pune.
  • Shrikant Dhivare, SP of Dhule, has been transferred to Jalgaon as SP.
  • Rajkumar Shinde, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Pune, will become SP of Washim.

These transfers represent one of the more substantial IPS reshuffles in recent months, affecting key positions across multiple districts and specialized departments. The state home department's decision reflects both routine administrative rotations and specific responses to recent incidents, particularly the Satara election controversy that prompted ministerial intervention.

The reshuffle aims to optimize police leadership distribution while addressing local concerns. Officers moving to new postings are expected to bring their experience to different challenges, from district policing to specialized intelligence and investigative roles. The transfers highlight the dynamic nature of police administration in Maharashtra and the ongoing efforts to maintain effective law enforcement across the state's diverse regions.
