Maharashtra Police Seeks Belagavi Cooperation in Massive Cash Loot Investigation
Maharashtra police have formally requested assistance from their Belagavi counterparts. They need help investigating an alleged massive cash robbery. The incident reportedly occurred at Chorla Ghat in October 2025.
Nashik police wrote a letter to Belagavi Superintendent of Police K Ramarajan. They asked for cooperation in this high-value case. SP Ramarajan confirmed receiving the communication when speaking to reporters.
Real Estate Agent Files Complaint About Kidnapping and Assault
The case began when Sandeep Patil approached Nashik police on January 1. Patil works as a real estate agent in Nashik. He filed a detailed complaint about kidnapping, physical assault, and death threats.
Patil stated the troubling events happened on October 22, 2025. The location was the Chorla Ghat area within Belagavi district. This region sits along the border between Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Allegations of a Rs 400 Crore Transport and Interception
The complaint contains startling claims about money movement. It alleges approximately Rs 400 crore was being transported from Goa to an ashram in Ahmedabad. The cash traveled through Karnataka in two separate containers.
According to the complaint, these containers were intercepted at Chorla Ghat. The money was then allegedly looted at that location. Patil further claimed he was abducted and assaulted. The assailants supposedly believed he had information about the heist.
Nashik Police Make Arrests and Find Belagavi Links
Nashik police acted on the complaint by registering a formal case. Their investigation led to the arrest of four suspects. The arrested individuals are Jayesh Kadam, Vishal Naidu, Sunil Dhumal, and Viraj Gandhi.
During their probe, police discovered several connections to Belagavi district. This information came from the complainant's statements. Senior Nashik police officials then decided to seek Belagavi's help. They wrote the letter requesting cooperation for further investigation.
Belagavi SP Cautions About Separating Allegations
SP Ramarajan provided important clarification about the case. He confirmed receiving the letter from Maharashtra police. However, he noted they haven't received a formal request to launch an official joint investigation yet.
The police official emphasized examining two separate aspects carefully. He stated the kidnapping of the real estate agent and the alleged cash loot are different matters. The complaint mentions demonetised currency in the loot allegation.
"The complainant says he was kidnapped and tortured," Ramarajan explained. "The accused supposedly believed he knew about the plot. They allegedly demanded a Rs 100 crore ransom from him."
He added that these statements require verification. Patil did not witness the alleged loot himself. The Belagavi police will proceed only after obtaining credible and detailed information.
SP Ramarajan assured that his department is examining the matter within their jurisdiction. They remain ready to cooperate once formal procedures begin.
