The accused, identified as Periyasamy, a resident of Kadayanallur in Tenkasi district, had arrived from Dubai on Tuesday morning. During a standard scrutiny of travel documents, immigration officer Arunkumar noticed inconsistencies in the passenger's passport history. Further investigations revealed that Periyasamy had deliberately altered his birth date from February 4, 1972, to May 5, 1982, in his Aadhaar card to avoid age-related documentation issues.
He also manipulated the spelling of his own name and his father's name to evade verification systems, enabling him to obtain a new passport. This falsified passport was used for travel to Dubai in 2024, where he had been working. Following a complaint filed by the immigration wing, the Avaniyapuram police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Passports Act, leading to his arrest.
