Luxury car injures 3 police personnel in Kanpur

A routine vehicle check near the Kohna police station in Kanpur turned violent on Tuesday evening when the driver of a luxury car accelerated through a police barrier, seriously injuring three police personnel before fleeing the scene.

Violent Assault on Police Team

The incident occurred at the Ganga Barrage. A team from the Kohna police station had signalled a suspicious car to stop. Instead of complying, the driver suddenly accelerated the vehicle, ramming the police barrier. The car dragged three personnel for approximately 10 feet before speeding off towards the Bithoor area.

Severe Injuries to Officers

The injured personnel were identified as Sanjay Kumar (40), the in-charge of Atal Ghat outpost, Sub-Inspector Puran Singh (26), and home guard Harikishan (50). Sanjay Kumar sustained multiple injuries, while SI Puran Singh suffered a broken left leg and internal injuries. Harikishan was hurt on his face and limbs. Other team members managed to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.

All three injured were rushed to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, where doctors began immediate treatment. Their condition is being closely monitored.

Massive Manhunt Launched

Senior police officers, including DCP Central Shravan Kumar Singh, inspected the site of the incident. Legal proceedings have been initiated at the police station level. Authorities are scouring CCTV footage from the area to identify the vehicle and its driver.

Preliminary footage suggests the car, which appeared to be fleeing after committing another crime, approached from the Unnao side and escaped towards Bithoor after the collision. Police teams in bordering and adjacent districts have been alerted to intercept the suspicious vehicle.

The brazen attack on police personnel performing their duty has triggered a widespread search operation, with officials vowing to apprehend the culprit soon.
