Ludhiana Police Arrest Two Men for Lohri Celebratory Gunfire Caught on Video

Police in Ludhiana arrested two city residents on Wednesday. The Jodhewal police took action after a social media video captured the men firing multiple gunshots into the air. This dangerous incident occurred during Lohri celebrations.

Video Evidence Leads to Arrests

The accused are Navjot Singh of New Basant Nagar and Manish of Vikash Colony. They were allegedly celebrating on a rooftop in Mangat Colony on Tuesday night. A local resident filmed the duo and circulated the footage online. This prompted immediate police intervention.

According to the FIR filed by ASI Jaspal Singh, the video showed a group of men dancing and flying kites on the rooftop. The celebration turned dangerous when the two men started discharging firearms into the sky. This action endangered the surrounding residential neighborhood.

Police traced the accused and registered a case against them, ASI Jaspal Singh said. Investigators believe multiple rounds were fired during the gathering. The police conducted a raid and arrested the pair.

Weapons Recovered and Charges Filed

During the raid, police recovered a cache of weapons. This included two pistols, one airgun, and one live cartridge. Authorities are currently verifying whether the pistols were legally licensed.

The accused have been booked under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This section deals with acts endangering the life or personal safety of others. They also face charges under Section 25 of the Arms Act.

A Persistent Safety Concern

Celebratory firing remains a significant safety concern during festival seasons in the region. Despite strict prohibitions, such incidents continue to occur. Ludhiana police reiterated their commitment to tackling this issue.

Social media monitoring is increasingly being used to identify and prosecute offenders, police officials noted. This approach helps track those who flaunt firearms laws during public or private gatherings. The police are actively monitoring online platforms to prevent similar dangerous behaviors.

The arrests highlight the risks associated with celebratory gunfire. Such actions can lead to serious injuries or even fatalities. The police urge the public to celebrate festivals safely and responsibly.
