In a horrific incident of domestic violence, the Ludhiana police have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly beating his eight-month pregnant wife to death. The accused, identified as Vijay Kumar, is said to have been in a drunken state during the fatal assault.
Brother's Complaint Leads to Arrest
The case came to light after the victim's brother, Ajay, filed a formal police complaint. He alleged that Vijay had a history of violent behavior when drunk and would often beat his wife, Pushpa, because she urged him to quit alcohol. The tragic event unfolded on Monday when Vijay, in an inebriated condition, reportedly thrashed Pushpa mercilessly.
A Desperate Struggle and a False Alibi
Authorities noted that Vijay also sustained an injury on his nose, leading them to suspect that Pushpa fought back bravely in an attempt to save her own life and that of her unborn child. "She was eight months pregnant and could not continue fighting," explained an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). After Pushpa collapsed, Vijay informed her parents that she had died a natural death. He claimed that she was prone to fits and had succumbed to one.
However, this story quickly fell apart. The presence of visible bruises and injuries on Pushpa's body raised immediate suspicion. The police were alerted, and a post-mortem examination confirmed the violent nature of her death, leading to Vijay's swift arrest.
A Grim Reminder of Domestic Violence
This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the Ludhiana community and highlights the severe and often deadly consequences of domestic abuse and alcoholism. It underscores the urgent need for societal intervention and support systems for victims of domestic violence. The Ludhiana police are continuing their investigation into the case.
