Ludhiana couple held for murder, chopping body into pieces

In a shocking case that has sent shivers through Ludhiana, Punjab police have arrested a couple for the brutal murder and dismemberment of a 35-year-old man, whose body parts were found stuffed in a plastic drum and scattered nearby.

The Grisly Discovery in Salem Tabri

The horrific incident came to light on Thursday when a passerby noticed a suspicious white plastic drum near the Salem Tabri police station area. Upon investigation, the police made a grisly discovery: a human head inside the drum. A subsequent search of the vicinity led to the recovery of other body parts, which were found scattered at different spots.

The victim was soon identified as Davinder Kumar, a 35-year-old man who worked at a printing and graphic designing shop in Mumbai. He had returned to his hometown of Ludhiana earlier in the week, on Tuesday, January 6.

Arrests and the Motive Behind the Brutal Killing

By Friday, the Ludhiana police had made swift arrests in the case. The accused were identified as Shamsher Singh, alias Shera, from Bhora village, and his wife, Kuldeep Kaur. According to the police, Shera was a friend of the deceased.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ludhiana) Sameer Verma detailed the sequence of events. The preliminary investigation revealed that Davinder Kumar had visited Shera's house on Tuesday. Both men consumed 'chitta' (heroin) together, leading to intoxication. An old monetary dispute flared up during this time; Davinder had borrowed money from Shera and had not returned it.

"In a fit of rage, he attacked him," ADCP Verma stated. The argument turned violent, and under the influence of drugs, Shera allegedly murdered Davinder using a handsaw. He then proceeded to chop the body into six pieces, placing them in a sack.

The Disposal and Investigation

In a chilling attempt to cover up the crime, Shera, with the assistance of his wife Kuldeep Kaur, went out to dispose of the body parts. They dumped the head in the plastic drum while throwing the other parts at various nearby locations.

Police officials confirmed that CCTV footage from the area shows the couple carrying a sack, which allegedly contained the victim's remains. The victim's family informed the police that after arriving from Mumbai on Tuesday, Davinder left home within 15 minutes and never returned.

Based on a statement from the deceased's wife, an FIR was registered for murder and other offences against Shamsher Singh, his wife, and others. The investigation is ongoing as police piece together the final moments of the tragic event.
