Tension flared in Lucknow's Gomti Nagar Vistar on Monday after the cremation of a 16-year-old girl was allegedly disrupted at a ground near Bada Bharwara crossing, following a dispute over adjoining land.
Incident Details
According to police, the incident occurred during the girl's last rites when an argument broke out between family members, local residents, and people having a property nearby. Relatives alleged that the situation worsened when water was poured on the funeral pyre, interrupting the final rites.
Police Intervention
Police rushed to the spot after receiving information and intervened to prevent escalation. Senior officers held talks with both sides and brought the situation under control. The cremation was later carried out peacefully in the presence of police personnel.
Root Cause
Police said the dispute appears to stem from a long-standing conflict over the use of land around the cremation site. SHO of Gomti Nagar Vistar, Gaurav Bajpai, stated that an FIR was lodged against a person named Saurabh Singh for allegedly pouring water on the pyre. Singh was associated with construction work at a nearby property, which belongs to an engineer in a private firm. The FIR was lodged on the complaint of the girl's father, Ashok.
