A devastating fire broke out at a coaching centre in Lucknow on Tuesday, claiming the lives of several students and leaving many others injured. The incident occurred in the city's Hazratganj area, where the institute was located on the upper floors of a multi-storey building. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and directed officials to expedite rescue and relief operations.

Details of the Incident

The fire started around 2:30 PM in the electrical wiring of the building and quickly spread to the upper floors where classes were in session. Students were trapped as flames engulfed the premises. Fire tenders rushed to the spot, and rescue teams worked to evacuate those inside. At least 12 students have been confirmed dead, and over 20 others sustained injuries, according to official sources. Many of the injured were admitted to nearby hospitals with burn injuries and smoke inhalation.

Impact on Students and Families

Parents of students rushed to the scene as news of the fire spread. Many were seen frantically searching for their children. The coaching centre, which prepared students for competitive exams, had over 200 students present at the time of the incident. Rescue operations continued for hours, with teams breaking windows and using ladders to bring down those trapped. The building's narrow staircases and lack of emergency exits reportedly hampered evacuation efforts.

Government Action and Safety Concerns

The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also instructed the state's fire department to conduct safety audits of all coaching centres in the state. This tragedy has raised serious questions about fire safety compliance in such institutes. Local residents alleged that the building lacked proper fire extinguishers and that the coaching centre operated without a valid no-objection certificate from the fire department. Opposition leaders have demanded strict action against those responsible.

Community Mourning and Support

As news of the tragedy spread, locals gathered to offer support. Blood donation camps were set up near hospitals. The state government has announced free treatment for the injured. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the injured at the hospital and assured them of all possible help. The incident has sparked widespread grief and calls for better enforcement of safety norms in educational institutions across the state.
