In a disturbing case of social media exploitation, the Lucknow Police have arrested a barber named Shoaib Akhtar for allegedly blackmailing a 15-year-old girl on Instagram. According to police sources, Shoaib, a resident of Gonda district, operates a barber shop at Chhathamil Crossing on Raitha Road in Lucknow.
How the Accused Gained the Victim's Trust
As per the complaint filed by the minor girl on Sunday, the accused first contacted her on Instagram approximately two years ago. He introduced himself as "Saurabh Singh" and gradually won her trust. Police officials stated that over time, he developed a close relationship with the unsuspecting girl.
Allegations of Molestation and Blackmail
The victim alleged that during the course of their interaction, the accused molested her and also recorded objectionable photographs and videos without her consent. When she eventually discovered his true identity and ceased all communication, he began threatening her. The accused demanded that she change her religion, failing which he would make the explicit content public.
When the girl refused to comply, Shoaib allegedly circulated the objectionable material online, prompting the victim to lodge a formal complaint with the authorities.
Police Investigation Reveals Multiple Victims
Police sources have indicated that Shoaib employed similar tactics with other girls as well. During the investigation, law enforcement officials recovered objectionable photos and videos of 13 to 14 other girls from his mobile phone. These pieces of evidence are currently being examined to ascertain the full extent of his crimes.
Legal Action Underway
ADCP North Zone, Twinkle Jain, confirmed the arrest of the accused and assured that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected. She further stated that all complaints against Shoaib Akhtar will be thoroughly investigated. The police have urged any other potential victims to come forward and report similar incidents.
This case highlights the growing menace of cybercrime and the vulnerability of minors on social media platforms. The authorities have reiterated the importance of online safety and parental supervision to prevent such exploitation.
