Lucknow's 3 Key Roads to Become Pedestrian-Only Zones for New Year's Eve
Lucknow: 3 Roads No-Vehicle Zones for New Year

In a significant move to ensure safe and enjoyable New Year's Eve celebrations, the Lucknow police have announced that three crucial stretches in the city will be transformed into exclusive pedestrian zones on December 31. These areas will be completely off-limits to vehicular traffic, allowing people to celebrate freely without the usual concerns of speeding vehicles or parking disorder.

Designated Pedestrian-Only Corridors for Safe Celebrations

The decision, aimed at managing the massive annual footfall, identifies specific high-traffic areas for the vehicle ban. The affected stretches include a section in Gomtinagar, the road directly in front of the historic Bada Imambara, and the thoroughfare from Hazratganj crossing all the way to the District Magistrate's residence. Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Babloo Kumar stated that converting these zones will grant revelers the liberty to walk, gather, and celebrate in a secure environment.

Elaborating on the plan, Kumar highlighted that several other areas expecting large crowds have been declared as strict no-parking zones. Vehicle owners are being directed to utilize only officially designated multilevel parking facilities. Busy commercial hubs, particularly Hazratganj, will function as completely vehicle-free pedestrian zones. Authorities have warned that any vehicles found entering these restricted areas will face rigorous challan proceedings, with additional barricades being installed at sensitive intersections to enforce the rules.

Enhanced Security and Regulatory Measures

Beyond traffic management, the police have rolled out a comprehensive security blueprint for the festive night. Establishments like hotels, malls, restaurants, and bars have been strictly instructed not to exceed their licensed capacity. Ticket sales must adhere to approved limits, and all venues must comply with prescribed closing times without exception.

In a focused effort to ensure women's safety, Kumar revealed that women police personnel in plain clothes will be strategically deployed at locations with heavy footfall of women. These include major markets, shopping malls, key crossings, entertainment zones, and other public spaces. "This measure will facilitate discreet monitoring, deter any misbehaviour, and ensure that any untoward incident is immediately identified and controlled," he explained.

City-Wide Deployment and Enforcement

The police force will be on high alert across the city. Additional deployments from the Police force, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) companies, and special teams will be positioned at sensitive locations. To curb drunk driving, breath analyser checks will be conducted on major routes throughout the night.

Furthermore, the use of loudspeakers and sound systems will be strictly regulated in accordance with prescribed norms to prevent noise pollution. The combined strategy of creating pedestrian havens, enforcing capacity rules, and deploying visible and covert security aims to make New Year's Eve in Lucknow both joyous and secure for all citizens.
