Legal Aid Desk Opens at Mangaluru District Prison

A legal aid help desk has been inaugurated at the Mangaluru District Prison to provide inmates with free legal assistance and create awareness about their rights. The desk was launched as part of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) initiative to ensure access to justice for all.

Purpose of the Help Desk

The primary objective of the desk is to offer legal advice and support to prisoners who may not have the means to hire lawyers. It aims to address issues such as undertrial detention, bail applications, and other legal matters. The desk will be staffed by lawyers from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and law students from local colleges.

Services Provided

  • Free legal consultation and counseling
  • Assistance in filing bail applications
  • Guidance on legal rights and procedures
  • Referral to legal aid lawyers for court representation

The help desk will operate on all working days, and inmates can approach it for any legal concerns. Additionally, awareness programs will be conducted regularly to educate prisoners about their rights and the legal system.
