In a dramatic action following a viral social media video, the Worli police in Mumbai have seized a high-end Lamborghini sports car. The vehicle was confiscated after a clip surfaced online showing it being driven at a speed alleged to be over 200 kilometers per hour on the iconic Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
Viral Video Triggers Police Action
The video, which recently gained traction on social media platforms, depicts the bright orange Lamborghini weaving aggressively through traffic on the busy sea bridge. The car is seen overtaking multiple vehicles at an extremely high speed, posing a significant risk to other road users. Authorities confirmed that the footage is from August but only came to their notice recently after it went viral.
The speed limit on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link is strictly 80 km/h, making the car's alleged speed more than two and a half times the legal limit. Acting on the evidence, the Worli police registered a formal case and launched a manhunt to trace the luxury vehicle and its driver.
Investigation Traces Car to Dealer in Pune
Through technical investigation, the police identified and located the driver as Faiz Adanwala. The car, bearing a Haryana registration number plate, was subsequently brought to Mumbai from Pune on Sunday for a detailed examination. Senior Police Inspector Arvind Patil stated that they are working to determine the exact speed at which the car was being driven in the video.
Police revealed the ownership chain of the vehicle. The Lamborghini originally belonged to Nirav Patel, a resident of Ahmedabad. Patel had handed over the car to dealer Faiz Adanwala for the purpose of selling it. Officials confirmed that the car had not been sold to any final buyer at the time of the incident.
Legal Repercussions for Reckless Driving
The police have taken serious legal action in this high-profile case. A formal case has been registered against the driver, Faiz Adanwala, under stringent sections of the law. The charges include:
- Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving or riding on a public way.
- Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act for driving dangerously.
This seizure underscores a growing crackdown on reckless driving and speeding by luxury car owners on Mumbai's roads, especially on critical infrastructures like the Sea Link. The police are also verifying all documents related to the car and its dealer as part of their comprehensive probe. The case highlights the increasing role of social media in bringing traffic violations to light and the subsequent accountability enforced by law enforcement agencies.
