Kumaon Inspector General Takes Stern Action in Multi-Crore Land Scam Investigation
In a significant administrative shake-up, Kumaon Inspector General (IG) Ridhim Aggarwal on Saturday dissolved the Special Investigation Teams (SITs) that were constituted to probe all cases related to a sprawling multi-crore land and investment fraud scam. The IG also suspended the in-charge of the Bhotia Parao police outpost, Anil Kumar, following a departmental review that uncovered serious negligence and procedural lapses in his handling of cases linked to the alleged mastermind, Dhananjay Giri.
Restructuring the Investigation and a Wider Crackdown
All land-related cases connected to this extensive scam will now be investigated by a newly constituted SIT at the range level, marking a complete overhaul of the probe's structure. Officials revealed that during the review, multiple complaints against Giri were examined, showing that he allegedly duped investors of over Rs 10 crore by enticing them with attractive land deals and high-return investment schemes. This action is part of a broader, intensified crackdown on land mafia networks operating across the Kumaon region.
Zero Tolerance Policy and Asset Investigation
"No influential accused will be given protection under any circumstances. Accountability will be fixed at every level," stated IG Ridhim Aggarwal emphatically. She has directed officials to prepare a detailed inventory of Giri's movable and immovable properties to identify any illegally acquired assets. Subsequently, attachment and seizure proceedings will be initiated as per the law. Aggarwal warned that any attempt to dilute the investigation or provide undue benefit to the accused would result in strict disciplinary action. "Officers found wanting will face direct consequences," she asserted.

Assuring the public that the police firmly stand with them and that the guilty will be sent behind bars, IG Aggarwal urged citizens to exercise extreme caution before investing in lucrative schemes or entering into land transactions. "Verify every legal aspect before parting with your hard-earned money," she advised, highlighting the importance of due diligence in financial matters.
