Major Drug Bust in Krishna District: Police Seize 171.2 Kg Ganja, Arrest Two Interstate Traffickers
In a significant victory against narcotics, the Krishna district police have made a major breakthrough by confiscating a substantial quantity of ganja and apprehending two interstate drug traffickers. The operation, conducted under the jurisdiction of the Atkur police station, resulted in the seizure of 171.2 kilograms of ganja, marking a critical step in the ongoing drive to curb drug-related activities in the region.
Press Conference Reveals Operation Details
Superintendent of Police V Vidyasagar Naidu addressed a press conference at the Machilipatnam Police Parade Ground on Friday, providing comprehensive insights into the successful operation. According to the SP, the police acted on reliable intelligence to intercept the drug traffickers, showcasing the effectiveness of proactive policing strategies.
How the Operation Unfolded
Acting on credible information, Hanuman Junction circle inspector L Ramesh and Atkur SI conducted meticulous vehicle checks near Chinnaputtapalli on the night of January 23, 2026, around 9 pm. During these checks, officers noticed an Eicher van with registration number AP39 UP 4715. Upon spotting the police, the occupants of the van abruptly diverted the vehicle towards Madhucon Industrial Road in an attempt to flee the scene.
The vigilant police team immediately gave chase and successfully intercepted the van near Pinnamaneni Hospital, close to Aditya Ventures and the Ganganamma Temple. A thorough inspection of the vehicle revealed 171.2 kg of ganja cleverly concealed inside. In addition to the contraband, authorities seized two mobile phones and the van itself as part of the evidence collection process.
Identities of the Arrested Individuals
The arrested traffickers have been identified as Hanumanthu Durga Prasad (38), a resident of Gajuwaka in Visakhapatnam, and Syed Mubarak alias Basheer (36), hailing from Kolar district in Karnataka. Preliminary investigations indicate that the ganja was supplied by an individual from Anakapalle and was being transported to Karnataka. The handler allegedly monitored the movement of the consignment over the phone, highlighting the organized nature of the trafficking network.
Police Warning and Public Appeal
SP Vidyasagar Naidu issued a stern warning, emphasizing that drugs have a devastating impact on the future of youth. He affirmed that strict legal action would be taken against anyone involved in drug trafficking activities. The SP also made a heartfelt appeal to the public, urging citizens to share any relevant information with the police or the EAGLE team, with assurances of complete confidentiality.
Furthermore, Naidu announced that a detailed probe has been initiated to trace both forward and backward links in the ganja network. This comprehensive investigation aims to dismantle the entire supply chain and bring all perpetrators to justice, reinforcing the police's commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes from the region.
This operation underscores the relentless efforts of the Krishna district police in combating narcotics and safeguarding the community from the perils of drug abuse. The successful seizure and arrests serve as a strong deterrent to potential traffickers and demonstrate the effectiveness of coordinated police action.
