Kota Police Crack Down on Fake Currency Network in Rural Market

In a significant operation, the Kota Rural police successfully dismantled a counterfeit currency racket during routine patrolling activities under the jurisdiction of the Chechat police station. The incident, which unfolded on Sunday night, led to the arrest of five individuals who were actively involved in circulating forged currency notes within the rural market areas of the district.

Details of the Police Operation and Arrests

According to Superintendent of Police (Kota Rural), Sujit Shankar, the breakthrough occurred when a police team from the Chechat station conducted a routine check at a post near Modak Road, adjacent to a local hotel. During this patrol, officers detained two suspects, identified as Zahid (19) and Islam (26). A thorough search revealed that they were in possession of counterfeit currency, specifically three fake Rs 500 notes and one fake Rs 200 note.

Upon interrogation, Zahid and Islam confessed to their involvement in the illegal activity. They disclosed that they had procured fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 30,000 for a payment of Rs 12,500 from two individuals named Waqar and Wasim, who are residents of Baran district. Acting swiftly on this information, the police apprehended Waqar and Wasim for further investigation.

Uncovering the Supply Chain and Legal Action

During questioning, Waqar and Wasim revealed that they had obtained the counterfeit notes from another individual named Sohel, who operates from the Bhanwargarh police station area in Baran. This revelation highlighted a broader network involved in the distribution of fake currency, prompting authorities to intensify their efforts to trace the source and wider connections of this illicit operation.

The police have filed a formal case under Sections 179, 180, 318(2), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), leading to the arrest of all five accused individuals. Superintendent Shankar emphasized that a detailed and comprehensive investigation has been launched to uncover the full extent of the network and identify the original source of the counterfeit currency. This proactive measure aims to prevent further circulation of fake notes and ensure the integrity of the financial system in the region.

The successful bust underscores the vigilance of the Kota Rural police in combating financial crimes and protecting local markets from fraudulent activities. Authorities remain committed to pursuing all leads to dismantle such networks and maintain law and order in the area.
