Kollam Neighbourhood Clash Turns Deadly: 25-Year-Old Welder Stabbed, Six Arrested

A tragic incident unfolded in Kollam's Nedumbana area on Sunday. A 25-year-old man lost his life, and four others sustained injuries during a violent clash between neighbours. The deceased has been identified as Sajith, a welding worker from Keralapuram.

Late-Night Dispute Escalates into Violence

Police reports indicate the trouble started around 10.30 pm at Changathimukku in Nedumbana. A quarrel involving Sajith's paternal uncle and neighbours sparked the initial dispute. Sajith and his 19-year-old brother Sujith arrived at the scene after hearing about the clash. Their arrival led to an immediate altercation.

Officers from the Kannanallur police station intervened and managed to disperse the two groups temporarily. However, the situation deteriorated quickly. Both groups reassembled, and a second, more violent clash erupted. During this confrontation, Sajith and Sujith were stabbed.

Casualties and Arrests

Sajith succumbed to his injuries. His brother Sujith suffered serious wounds and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital. Two members from the opposing group also sustained injuries. Authorities admitted them to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital (MCH).

Police have taken swift action in response to the incident. They arrested six individuals in connection with the deadly clash. The arrested persons are Sunil Raj (38), Shyju (40), Prasad (46), Ananthu (29), Atul (22), and Akhil (24). Another accused, named Sivadasan, is undergoing treatment at MCH.

Background and Aftermath

Investigating officers revealed that previous disputes existed between the families involved. This history of conflict likely contributed to the escalation of violence. After a postmortem examination at Parippally Medical Hospital, Sajith's body was cremated at the Polayathode crematorium on Sunday evening.

Sajith is survived by his wife, Sruthi. The community remains in shock following this brutal act of violence between neighbours. Police continue their investigation to determine the full sequence of events and ensure justice is served.
