In a bizarre incident that unfolded in Kolkata, a 17-year-old boy was detained by police on Saturday for allegedly impersonating an Income Tax officer and visiting schools in the Ashoknagar area of North 24 Parganas district. The teenager reportedly arrived at the institutions with a fleet of cars fitted with blue beacons and was accompanied by bodyguards, all in an apparent attempt to impress his friends.
Incident Details and School Visits
The incident occurred just a day after Saraswati Puja, when teachers were heavily engaged in festival-related activities and students were gathered around pandals. According to official sources, around noon on Saturday, three vehicles pulled up at the gate of Ashoknagar Vidyasagar Banibhaban High School. One of these cars was notably equipped with a blue beacon, typically used by government officials.
A senior police official provided insights into the event, stating, "An ex-student of the school, who is a minor, stepped out of the vehicle, accompanied by 8 to 10 men posing as bouncers. He greeted the headmaster and introduced himself as an I-T officer." This audacious act did not stop there; the teenager later proceeded to another school in Ashoknagar, continuing his impersonation scheme.
Police Alert and Detention
The headmaster of the second school quickly became suspicious and promptly alerted the Ashoknagar police. This swift action led to the boy's detention, preventing any further disruptions. The police are currently investigating the matter to determine the full extent of the impersonation and the involvement of the accompanying individuals.
This incident has raised significant concerns about school security and the potential for such impersonations to cause alarm among educational institutions. Authorities are urging schools to remain vigilant and verify the credentials of any unexpected visitors claiming to be government officials.
