Kolkata Class 12 Student Suspected of Gold Bangle Theft

Police in Kolkata are investigating a case of theft involving a valuable piece of jewellery, with suspicion falling on a Class 12 student from a reputable city school. The incident revolves around the alleged theft of a 22-carat gold bangle from a condominium located off the EM Bypass.

The Incident and Initial Suspicion

According to the police, the incident came to light on November 29. The family residing in the condo had gone out for a temple visit, leaving only their teenage son at home. Around 4 PM, two of his friends, including the now-suspected student, visited the residence for a group study session.

Statements indicate that the gold bangle, weighing approximately 22 to 25 grams, was on a dressing table in a bedroom. The suspected boy reportedly left the apartment earlier than his friend. When the boy's mother and the rest of the family returned home later, the ornament was missing. After a search, their suspicion immediately fell on the student who had departed early.

Police Investigation and Digital Clues

The woman formally lodged a complaint at the Survey Park Police Station on December 5. Her complaint included a significant digital lead. She claimed to have learned from her son's other friends that shortly after leaving their house, the suspected teenager held a video call with some classmates.

During this call, he allegedly showed them the gold bangle and boasted about possessing the expensive item. The complainant further stated that the boy later sold the jewellery. Police are now examining this claim and scouring communication logs to recover any visual evidence that could establish the sequence of events.

Officers noted there was no sign of forced entry, leading them to believe the theft was committed by someone who was already inside the home during the brief window when the elders were away.

Whereabouts of the Suspect

The situation took a turn when the suspected Class 12 student did not return home after the incident came to light. He has also switched off his mobile phone, severing contact. His family members have told the police they are clueless about his current location.

Law enforcement officials suspect the boy might be staying with another friend. Consequently, the Survey Park Police have initiated a search and are tracking multiple mobile numbers to locate him. The investigation is actively ongoing as authorities piece together the evidence from the alleged theft and the subsequent video call.
