In a significant development in Kolhapur district, the city police have officially filed three First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with a recent incident that unfolded in Kabnur village, located near Ichalkaranji. The cases involve one FIR against a woman accused of allegedly hurting religious sentiments and two separate FIRs against two distinct groups for engaging in stone-pelting and causing damage to vehicles in the area.
Sequence of Events Leading to Police Action
The situation began with an alleged incident of abuse by a woman over a poster depicting a historic figure in the village. According to police reports, this act prompted a group of individuals to retaliate by damaging vehicles in the vicinity where the woman resided. In response, another group resorted to stone-pelting, escalating the tensions further.
The woman, who is alleged to have used offensive language against the historic figure, has since been arrested by the authorities. Prior to her arrest, a group of people had marched to the Shivajinagar police station on Sunday night, demanding her immediate apprehension. The police acted swiftly, with complaints being filed overnight, and the FIRs were formally registered on Monday morning.
Police Clarification and Judicial Proceedings
Shivaji Gaikwad, the inspector of Shivajinagar police station, provided crucial details to clarify the incident. He stated, "There was no tearing of the poster of the historic figure. The woman wanted the frame back on which the poster was tied, and from this, it escalated into a brawl between her and a few people. The other group interpreted this as defaming the historic figure."
Gaikwad confirmed that three FIRs have been registered to address the various aspects of the case. Following her arrest, the woman was presented before the Ichalkaranji court, which subsequently remanded her into judicial custody. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter to ensure all parties involved are held accountable under the law.
