In a shocking incident in Kolhapur, a young man was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances on Monday morning. The body was found on the footpath connecting Gokhale College Road to Hockey Stadium Road, with electrical wires wrapped around it and attached to a nearby pole.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
Demonstrating remarkable efficiency, the Kolhapur police cracked the case within six hours of finding the body. Teams scoured footage from CCTV cameras installed along the road to identify and track down the suspect. Acting on the physical description obtained from the video, police located and apprehended the accused in the Kalamba Ring Road area.
The arrested individual has been identified as Manish Raut (28), a resident of Raut Colony in Kolhapur. During initial questioning, Raut revealed the identity of the deceased as Siddhu Banavi (20), who lived in the Vashi Naka area. The two men were known to each other.
A Drunken Altercation Turns Deadly
According to the police, the tragic sequence of events unfolded after both men went out for drinks on Sunday night. Inspector Sushant Chavan stated that a petty argument erupted between them during their drinking session.
"The accused said that Banavi hurled some abuses at him, which enraged him," Inspector Chavan explained. "In that fit of rage, he killed Banavi by strangling him using the wire hanging from the electric pole." The altercation, stemming from a minor issue, thus culminated in a brutal act of violence.
