Major Drug Bust in Kochi: Police Seize Synthetic Narcotics and Arrest Supplier

The District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (Dansaf) in Kochi executed a significant operation on Friday, resulting in the seizure of a substantial quantity of synthetic drugs and the arrest of a key suspect. The action took place in the Vazhakkala area of Thrikkakara, marking a crucial development in the ongoing crackdown on narcotics trafficking in the region.

Arrest and Seizure Details

Authorities apprehended Kevin B Mathew, a 42-year-old resident of Chembumukku, who was found in possession of approximately 183.55 grams of MDMA and 93.51 grams of ecstasy pills. Police officials confirmed that the suspect is accused of supplying drugs to individuals involved in a previous narcotics case handled by the Kadavanthra police in March. In addition to the drug haul, law enforcement recovered Rs 1 lakh in cash, which is alleged to have been earned through illicit drug trafficking activities.

Connection to Earlier Case

This arrest is linked to an earlier investigation, highlighting the persistent efforts of local police to dismantle drug networks. Kevin Mathew's alleged involvement in supplying narcotics to accused persons from the March case underscores the interconnected nature of such criminal operations. The seizure of both drugs and cash represents a dual blow to trafficking activities, aiming to disrupt both the supply chain and financial incentives.

Separate Incident: Assault on Police Officers

In an unrelated but notable event, Ernakulam rural police arrested two youths on Friday for allegedly assaulting police officers. The individuals have been identified as Rahul Krishna from Kaitharam and Ashwin Krishna from Thrissur. They were taken into custody by Paravur police following an incident that occurred around 1 am on Wednesday.

The confrontation began when police received a complaint about fireworks being set off in a manner that obstructed travellers and vehicles on National Highway 66 at Kottuvally. Upon arriving at the scene to investigate, officers were obstructed and physically assaulted by the accused, resulting in injuries to the police personnel. This incident highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining public order and safety.

Law Enforcement Response

Both cases demonstrate the proactive measures being taken by Kochi police to address various forms of criminal activity, from narcotics trafficking to public disturbances. The Dansaf's focused action on drug-related crimes, combined with the rural police's handling of assaults, reflects a comprehensive approach to community security. Authorities continue to investigate these matters to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences.
