Kochi Police Mobilize Massive Security for Aluva Shivaratri Observance
A high-level coordination meeting was convened at the district police headquarters in Kochi, bringing together representatives from multiple departments to finalize preparations for the upcoming Shivaratri observance in Aluva. The meeting focused on ensuring a safe and orderly environment for the large influx of devotees expected to participate in the rituals.
Comprehensive Police Deployment and Surveillance
Rural police officials announced that approximately 1,500 police officers will be deployed under the direct supervision of District Police Chief K S Sudarshan to safeguard attendees at Manappuram, the primary site for ritual offerings. This robust force will include shadow police units strategically positioned at key locations such as the railway station, bus stand, main roads, Manappuram itself, and the bridge. Officers will also be stationed in watchtowers to maintain a constant vigil over the area.
Advanced monitoring systems will be in place, with CCTV cameras operating 24/7 and a dedicated police control room functioning round the clock at Manappuram. Additionally, traffic regulations will be strictly enforced to manage vehicle flow and prevent congestion during the festival period.
Multi-Departmental Safety and Infrastructure Measures
The meeting saw active participation from various agencies, each outlining their specific contributions to public safety and convenience:
- Fire Department: Fire service centers will be established at Manappuram and Thottakkattukara, with a scuba diving team on standby for any emergencies.
- Food Safety Department: Officials committed to ensuring food safety through rigorous inspections of eateries and food stalls.
- Excise and Railway Police: Additional personnel will be deployed, with more excise officers on duty and extra railway police around the station to handle crowd control.
Infrastructure support includes the provision of drinking water at key locations, arrangements to prevent power outages, and the introduction of 100 additional KSRTC bus services to facilitate transportation. Bio-toilets will be available for public use, and the government hospital will be fully equipped to handle any medical needs.
Amusement Park and Regulatory Compliance
For amusement park rides, fitness certificates will be mandatory, and police will ensure strict compliance to prevent accidents. This measure underscores the holistic approach taken to cover all aspects of public safety during the Shivaratri festivities.
The coordinated efforts reflect a proactive strategy by authorities to manage the large-scale event smoothly, prioritizing the well-being of devotees and residents alike.
