The King George's Medical University (KGMU) Teachers' Association has called upon the Uttar Pradesh state government to intervene in the alleged assault and chain-snatching incident involving senior urologist Professor Vivek Kumar Singh. The association has demanded the immediate registration of a First Information Report (FIR) and a fair investigation into the matter.
Incident Details
In a letter addressed to the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), the association detailed that the incident occurred on the evening of May 31. Professor Singh was driving towards Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) when his car collided with another vehicle. This led to a heated altercation with the occupants of the other car, who allegedly assaulted Professor Singh and snatched his gold chain weighing approximately 20 grams.
Injuries and Hospitalization
Association President Professor KK Singh confirmed that Professor Singh sustained injuries during the incident and was subsequently admitted to the KGMU Trauma Centre for medical treatment.
Complaint Filed but No FIR
Professor Singh's wife, Dr. Vijeta Singh, submitted a written complaint regarding the incident at the Aashiana police station. However, the association has alleged that no FIR has been registered based on her complaint so far. In contrast, a case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the other party involved in the dispute.
Demands from Medical Bodies
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has also weighed in on the matter. IMA President Dr. Manoj Kumar Asthana demanded the registration of an FIR under appropriate legal sections and strict action against the perpetrators. He emphasized the need for accountability in connection with the alleged assault, robbery, and misconduct.
The KGMU Teachers' Association has urged the state government to ensure a fair and transparent investigation, expressing concern over the delay in registering the FIR. The incident has sparked outrage among the medical community, with many calling for swift justice and enhanced safety measures for healthcare professionals.
