In a significant breakthrough, the Nagpur Rural Police have apprehended the alleged primary supplier of the illegal firearm used in the brutal killing of Balya Gujar in Shankarpat village, Kalmeshwar taluka. The arrest marks a crucial step in unravelling the supply chain behind the violent crime that occurred last month.
Details of the Crime and Initial Arrests
The incident dates back to November 23, when Balya Gujar, a resident of Birsa Nagar, Kuhi Phata, was fatally shot during an engagement ceremony in Shankarpat village. Police reports indicate that the murder, carried out using a country-made pistol and knives, stemmed from an old rivalry. Two other individuals who tried to intervene sustained serious injuries.
A case was immediately registered at the Kalmeshwar police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Swift police action led to the arrest of the main shooter, identified as Deva alias Parmeshwar Eknath, and several accomplices shortly after the crime.
The Chain of Supply Uncovered
Investigations revealed a detailed chain of procurement for the murder weapon. It was established that the shooter, Parmeshwar, received the country-made pistol from an accomplice named Chandrashekhar alias Rahin Eknath. Chandrashekhar had purchased the weapon from Amritsingh Bhada, 22, of Kalmeshwar, who was subsequently arrested.
During interrogation, Amritsingh disclosed that he acquired the firearm from Jaspalsingh Charatsingh Bawari, 25, of Talegaon in Wardha district. Jaspalsingh was arrested on December 8. His interrogation proved pivotal, as he revealed that the weapon's source was Karansingh Chauhan, 21, a resident of Nimkhedi in Buldhana district.
Arrest of the Primary Supplier
Acting on this intelligence and a chain of evidence gathered from the arrested accused, a special team from Kalmeshwar police tracked down Karansingh Chauhan. He was apprehended from Jalgaon Jamod on December 16.
Further probe established that Karansingh Chauhan is the key supplier linked to sources in Pachori, Burhanpur district, Madhya Pradesh. Authorities have successfully seized the weapon used in the crime.

The police are continuing their investigations to trace potential broader supply chains that may cross state borders. The arrest of the primary supplier is seen as a major success in disrupting the network of illegal arms that fuels violent crime in the region.
The case underscores the persistent challenge of inter-state illegal firearm trade and the commitment of the rural police to pursue every link in the chain, from the perpetrator to the source.
