Arrest Made Through Coordinated Police Operation
The special police team successfully apprehended Deepu, also known as Bhondha, at a cement shop located near the Ramjichak temple in Patna. This arrest marks a crucial development in a case that has shocked the local community with its brutality.
City SP (Central) Diksha provided detailed insights into the investigation timeline and methodology. According to official statements, the victims—identified as Devraj Kumar Singh and another unidentified man—were killed on August 7, 2024. The police operation was initiated after Sujit Kumar Rai, the victim's brother-in-law, filed a formal complaint at Digha police station reporting Devraj's abduction.
Unraveling the Sequence of Events
Police investigation has revealed a disturbing sequence of events that led to the double murder. On August 3, 2024, a group was reportedly assaulting an unknown individual when Devraj Kumar Singh witnessed the attack. Fearing that he might alert others about their criminal activities, the accused captured Devraj and subsequently killed him.
The brutality didn't end there. The perpetrators then murdered the first victim as well, creating a tragic scenario of two lives lost. In an attempt to conceal their crimes, the accused stuffed both bodies into sacks, loaded them into an auto-rickshaw, and disposed of them in the Ganga river.
Expanding Investigation and Previous Arrests
Police authorities have identified seven suspects in connection with this case, most of whom hail from the Ramjichak area under Digha police station jurisdiction. Prior to Friday's arrest of the prime accused, four individuals had already been taken into custody:
- Vinay Kumar
- Anand Kumar alias Bunty
- Kapil Prasad
- Pankaj Rai
These four accused have been sent to judicial custody as the investigation continues to unfold.
Special Investigation Team Formed
Given the serious nature of the crime, authorities constituted a special investigation team led by the SDPO (Law & Order II). This dedicated team has been working meticulously to gather evidence and track down all individuals involved in the heinous act.
With five arrests now made in the case, police efforts are intensifying to locate and apprehend the remaining two suspects. The investigation continues to leverage both technical surveillance methods and human intelligence inputs to ensure all perpetrators face justice for their alleged crimes.
The arrest of the prime accused represents a significant step forward in bringing closure to a case that has highlighted the challenges law enforcement faces in addressing violent crimes within urban communities.
