Kerala Man Arrested for Murder of Woman Found on Railway Track in Kochi

In a shocking incident in Kochi, Maradu Police have arrested a retired high court employee for the murder of a 45-year-old woman, whose body was discovered on a railway track in Vyttila early Tuesday morning. The victim, identified as Sudha Baby from Chingavanam in Kottayam, was found dead on a subsidiary railway line that is rarely used by trains, leading to a swift investigation and arrest.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest

The arrest of Shaji KV, a 63-year-old resident of Ponnurunni, came just hours after the body was found. Police sources revealed that Sudha Baby's phone, found near her body, played a crucial role in her quick identification and in tracing the suspect. This evidence, combined with extensive CCTV footage collected from the area, provided a clear timeline of events before and after the crime.

The CCTV footage showed Shaji and Baby walking together towards the crime scene, and later, Shaji leaving the area alone with visible bloodstains on his body. This visual proof was instrumental in linking him to the murder, according to police officials.

Details of the Crime and Relationship Strain

Investigations indicate that Shaji had known Sudha Baby for some time, and the two were in a relationship. However, police sources added that their relationship had recently come under strain due to various reasons, which may have contributed to the tragic outcome.

An officer involved in the case provided chilling details: "The accused picked her up from her residence in Poothotta on Monday night with a plan to kill her. The duo arrived in Vyttila by car and walked towards the spot. They had an argument after which Shaji attacked her. He hit the woman on her face, fracturing her nasal bone. He then held her head and slammed it onto the ground, causing severe head injuries."

Attempt to Mislead Investigation Foiled

Police stated that Shaji attempted to make the murder look like an accident by placing the body on the railway track, hoping it would appear as if a train had run over her. However, this plan failed because the track where he left the body is not frequently used by trains. The body was discovered around 1:45 AM by the loco pilot of an express train, who immediately alerted the Railway Police Force and local police.

Following the discovery, police completed inquest proceedings, and the victim's autopsy was conducted at Kalamassery Medical College. A forensic team, along with senior officers, thoroughly examined the crime scene to collect additional evidence, ensuring a comprehensive investigation.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Impact

The arrest has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting concerns over personal safety and relationship violence. Police are continuing their investigation to gather more details about the motives and any potential accomplices. The case underscores the importance of technological aids like CCTV and mobile forensics in modern crime-solving, enabling quick responses in such heinous acts.

As the legal process unfolds, authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious activities and to seek help in strained relationships to prevent such tragedies in the future.
