Police in Karur have launched a major investigation against a serial supporting actress from Chennai, her husband, and an associate for allegedly stealing a high-end luxury vehicle and precious diamond jewellery from a hotel owner, followed by issuing him death threats. The case, which involves assets worth lakhs, has seen one arrest so far while the main accused remains at large.
Sequence of Events: A Lease Deal Turns Sour
The controversy has its roots in a business deal struck eight months ago. Balaji, also known as Balamurugan, who is the husband of actress Rani from Valasaravakkam in Chennai, leased a prominent hotel located on the Karur-Coimbatore road. The owner of the property, Dinesh from Namakkal, agreed to the lease for an amount of Rs 10 lakh, facilitated by a local political leader.
However, according to police sources, Balaji had not cleared the lease payment. The situation escalated last month when Balaji visited Karur and took Dinesh's imported luxury car, valued at a staggering Rs 80 lakh, to Chennai. He reportedly promised to return it within two days. Unbeknownst to Dinesh at that time, a five-sovereign diamond necklace belonging to his wife was inside the vehicle.
The Alleged Theft and Threats
When Dinesh realized the necklace was missing and connected it to his car, he immediately contacted Balaji, demanding the return of both items. It is alleged that instead of complying, actress Rani, her husband Balaji, and a relative identified as Purushothaman refused to hand over the car and the jewellery. To make matters worse, they reportedly issued death threats to Dinesh, intimidating him from pursuing the matter further.
Fearing for his safety and seeking justice, Dinesh filed a formal complaint at the Karur Town Police Station on December 16. Based on his detailed complaint, the police registered a case and initiated a swift investigation.
Police Action and Current Status
Acting on the complaint, the Karur Town police have already made significant progress. Purushothaman was brought to Karur on Sunday night and is currently under interrogation. The police have also issued a formal summons to actress Rani, expecting her to appear at the police station for questioning in the near future.
The primary accused, Balaji, is currently absconding, and a search operation is underway to locate and apprehend him. The police are investigating all angles of the case, including the roles of all individuals involved and the recovery of the stolen luxury car and diamond necklace.
This incident highlights serious allegations of breach of trust and intimidation involving individuals from the entertainment industry, sending shockwaves through the local business community in Karur. The police have assured a thorough probe to ensure justice is served.
