Karnataka Road Accidents: Two Deaths in Separate Incidents

Two Separate Road Accidents in Karnataka Result in Fatalities

In two tragic incidents within Karnataka, negligent driving has led to the loss of lives on the roads. The accidents, occurring in Karkala and Sullia, highlight the severe consequences of rash and high-speed vehicle operation.

Fatal Collision in Karkala's Mala Ghat Area

A devastating road accident near Mala Ghat in Karkala claimed the life of a man on Tuesday morning. The victim, identified as Naveen Jayakumar, was riding a two-wheeler with a pillion rider, Rajath S from Mudaru village, when the tragedy unfolded.

According to the complaint filed by Rajath S, they were traveling from Bajagoli towards Mala Ghat. Naveen Jayakumar was allegedly driving at high speed and in a negligent manner along the ghat section. Simultaneously, a tipper truck driven by Kalandar was approaching from the SK Border side towards Karkala, also reportedly at high speed and in a rash manner.

Upon noticing the oncoming tipper, Naveen Jayakumar suddenly applied the brakes, causing the two-wheeler to skid. This led to a collision between the vehicles. As a result, Naveen Jayakumar fell onto the road along with the vehicle, and the front right tyre of the tipper ran over his waist, resulting in his immediate death at the scene.

The pillion rider, Rajath S, sustained internal injuries to his right leg and abrasions on his left knee in the accident. Following the incident, a case has been registered at the Karkala Rural police station under Sections 281, 125(a), and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to rash driving, negligence, and causing death by negligence.

Motorcycle Crash in Sullia Claims Another Life

In a separate incident, a man died after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a roadside tree in Sullia. The deceased has been identified as Sridhar, aged 38 years.

The complaint was filed by Radhakrishna PM, a 49-year-old resident of Kasaragod, Kerala. According to his statement, the accident occurred on Monday night. While Radhakrishna PM was in Sullia, he received a call from an acquaintance informing him that his brother's motorcycle had met with an accident near the Kolchar bus stop in Aleti village, and that his brother had sustained serious injuries.

Radhakrishna PM rushed to the spot and shifted his injured brother, Sridhar, to the government hospital in Sullia for emergency treatment. However, upon examination, doctors declared Sridhar dead. The complaint indicates that the accident was caused by the deceased riding the motorcycle in an alleged rash and negligent manner.

In response to this fatal crash, a case has been registered at the Sullia police station under Sections 281 and 106 of the BNS, addressing charges related to rash driving and causing death by negligence.

These back-to-back tragedies underscore the critical need for road safety awareness and adherence to traffic regulations in Karnataka. The police investigations are ongoing, with both cases highlighting the legal repercussions under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for such negligent acts on the roads.
