Karnataka Police Organizes Major Awareness Marathon in Ballari to Combat Social Issues

In a significant community-driven initiative, the Karnataka Police successfully organized a large-scale awareness marathon at the DAR grounds in Ballari City on Sunday. The event, which featured both 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer runs, was specifically designed to sensitize the public against three critical and growing menaces: drug abuse, rising road accidents, and cybercrime.

SP Suman D Pennekar Flags Off the Event

Ballari Superintendent of Police Suman D Pennekar officially flagged off the marathon, marking the third consecutive year the event has been held in the district. Expressing her satisfaction with the overwhelming response, SP Pennekar noted that more than 1,000 enthusiastic participants registered for this year's edition, showcasing strong community engagement.

"This marathon is part of a broader statewide campaign by Karnataka Police aimed at encouraging preventive awareness through active community participation," stated SP Pennekar. She emphasized that the initiative seeks to foster a culture of vigilance and proactive health among citizens.

Inclusive Participation and Key Objectives

To ensure inclusivity, a special 2-kilometer walkathon was conducted for senior citizens, allowing them to join the movement. Officials highlighted the primary objectives of the program:

  • Steering youth away from narcotics and promoting sports, fitness, and a healthy lifestyle.
  • Reinforcing road safety norms, including mandatory helmet usage.
  • Protecting women and children and enhancing vigilance against cyber fraud, which has seen a steady rise across Karnataka in recent years.

The marathon served as a platform to educate participants on these pressing issues while encouraging physical activity as a positive alternative to harmful behaviors.

Recognition and Community Support

At the conclusion of the run, winners in various categories were presented with certificates, medals, and helmets as part of the road safety awareness drive. This gesture underscored the dual focus on achievement and safety education.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a diverse group, including students, youth groups, police personnel, and members of the public. This broad involvement highlighted strong community support for the campaign's message of prevention and awareness.

The Karnataka Police's initiative in Ballari reflects a proactive approach to addressing societal challenges through collective action, setting a precedent for other districts to follow.
