Karnataka Home Minister Advocates for District-Wide AI Surveillance Network
In a significant push for modernized law enforcement, Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara has called for the expansion of an advanced AI-powered surveillance system across the entire Chikkamagaluru district. The minister issued this directive following a detailed inspection of the newly operational Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) in Chikkamagaluru city on Friday.
High-Tech Command Centre Showcases Advanced Capabilities
The state-of-the-art command centre, established at an estimated project cost of Rs 1.75 crore, represents a major technological leap for local policing. Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Dayama provided the minister with a comprehensive demonstration of the facility's sophisticated functionalities.
The centre currently integrates 41 solar-powered AI surveillance cameras strategically deployed throughout Chikkamagaluru city. These intelligent cameras utilize artificial intelligence algorithms to monitor public spaces continuously, enabling proactive crime prevention and enhanced situational awareness for law enforcement personnel.
Multi-Faceted Approach to Public Safety and Traffic Management
The Integrated Command and Control Center serves multiple critical functions for urban governance and security:
- Maintaining law and order through real-time monitoring of public areas
- Controlling criminal activities with predictive analytics and rapid response capabilities
- Managing increasing traffic volumes with intelligent surveillance systems
- Automating fine issuance for traffic violations through AI-powered detection
- Ensuring comprehensive public safety and security across monitored zones
Minister Calls for Comprehensive District Coverage
After reviewing the system's impressive capabilities, Home Minister Parameshwara emphasized that this innovative initiative should not remain confined to the city limits. He formally urged Chikkamagaluru police authorities to develop and implement a plan for extending the AI-powered surveillance network across the entire district.
The minister stressed that broader implementation would significantly enhance the police force's ability to maintain law and order while ensuring the safety and security of all district residents. This expansion would represent a substantial scaling of the technological infrastructure currently operational in the urban centre.
Additional Security Directives Issued
During his visit, Minister Parameshwara also addressed other security concerns facing the district. He directed police officers to take necessary and decisive steps to identify and locate illegal migrants within Chikkamagaluru's jurisdiction. This instruction underscores the government's comprehensive approach to security matters, combining technological advancement with traditional policing responsibilities.
The proposed district-wide expansion of the AI surveillance system represents a forward-looking approach to law enforcement that could serve as a model for other regions in Karnataka. By leveraging artificial intelligence and solar-powered technology, authorities aim to create a more responsive, efficient, and effective security infrastructure capable of addressing contemporary public safety challenges.
