Migrant Worker from Karnataka Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Wife in Goa
In a shocking incident early Friday morning, a migrant worker from Karnataka allegedly murdered his wife by slashing her throat with a knife in a rented room at Muddavaddo, Saligao, Goa. The husband, identified as Vinod Rathod, 40, has been arrested by Saligao police in connection with the brutal crime.
Details of the Crime and Arrest
The deceased was identified as Rukmini Rathod, 36. According to Vishwesh Karpe, SDPO of Porvorim, who rushed to the spot, the husband reportedly confessed to the crime, leading to his immediate custody. Senior police officials, including SP Harishchandra Madkaikar and Saligao PI Dinesh Gadekar, were also present at the scene to oversee the investigation.
Based on statements from the owner of the rented room and family members of the deceased, Saligao police revealed that the couple had been living in Goa for several years. However, due to ongoing marital problems, the husband had been residing separately in their native place in Karnataka for about a year. Rukmini, along with their three children, had been staying in Saligao for the past few months, where she worked as a tailor and also sold garments to support the family.
Background of Marital Disputes
The husband returned to Goa a few days ago, and the couple were allegedly quarrelling frequently. On Thursday night, he arrived at his wife's rented premises in Muddavaddo, Saligao, and allegedly demanded money. The deceased's brother reported receiving a call from Rukmini asking for financial assistance, as her husband was threatening her.
The arguments continued into Friday morning after their three children left for school. In a fit of rage, the husband allegedly slashed his wife's throat, causing grievous injuries that led to her death. Later in the morning, the deceased's sister attempted to contact her. When she received no response and suspected something was amiss, she immediately alerted the Saligao police.
Police Response and Investigation
Police rushed to the spot and found Rukmini lying in a pool of blood inside the rented room. The scene was secured, and forensic teams were called in to collect evidence. Further investigation is currently underway to determine the exact motives and circumstances surrounding the crime. Authorities are also examining the couple's financial records and interviewing additional witnesses to build a stronger case.
This tragic incident highlights the severe consequences of domestic disputes and the urgent need for community awareness and support systems to prevent such violence. The police have assured that justice will be served, and the case is being treated with high priority due to its brutal nature.
