Karnataka DGP Viral Video Triggers Government Investigation

A viral video from Karnataka has ignited a major controversy. The footage reportedly shows Director General of Police K Ramachandra Rao in his office. It allegedly depicts him in an intimate position with multiple women. This video spread rapidly across social media platforms.

The government has now launched a formal investigation into the matter. The incident has created a significant political and administrative row in the state.

DGP Strongly Denies Video Authenticity

K Ramachandra Rao has firmly rejected the video's content. He labeled the footage as completely fabricated and false. The senior police officer expressed shock over the circulation of this material.

"I am shocked. It is all fabricated, a lie. The video is entirely false. I have no idea about it," Ramachandra Rao told reporters. He clarified that he would only know about such an incident if it had actually occurred.

The DGP attempted to explain his position to Home Minister G Parameshwara. However, this discussion did not yield any concrete resolution. Ramachandra Rao stated he plans to consult with his legal advocate regarding further steps.

Chief Minister Promises Disciplinary Action

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the controversy directly. He confirmed the government will investigate the matter thoroughly. The Chief Minister emphasized that disciplinary action will follow if necessary.

"We will investigate this matter and take disciplinary action. No one is above the law," Siddaramaiah declared. He learned about the viral video in the morning and immediately decided to initiate proceedings.

The Chief Minister added a clear warning. He stated action would be taken if the DGP is found guilty of any misconduct. Siddaramaiah noted that seniority does not provide immunity from legal consequences.

When questioned about the video's age, Siddaramaiah mentioned it might be from eight years ago. This period coincides with his time in Belagavi. He admitted uncertainty about how and when the incident supposedly occurred.

Family Connection to Gold Smuggling Case

The controversy gains additional complexity due to family connections. K Ramachandra Rao is the stepfather of Harshavardhini Ranya, also known as Ranya Rao. She faces arrest in a high-profile gold smuggling case.

Ranya Rao currently remains lodged in Bengaluru Central Jail. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence recently issued her a notice. This notice demands payment of a fine amounting to ₹102.55 crore related to the smuggling row.

Media Coverage and Political Reactions

Kannada television news channels broadcast blurred images from the viral video. They carefully obscured the identities of the women shown in the footage. This media attention amplified public discussion about the incident.

Karnataka Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar also commented on the situation. As the Woman and Child Development Minister, she promised strong action if wrongdoing is proven.

"Being the Woman and Child Development Minister I can tell you that we will take action mercilessly, irrespective of the seniority he holds," Hebbalkar told reporters. She affirmed the government's commitment to addressing any verified misconduct.

The investigation continues as authorities examine the video's authenticity. The case highlights ongoing tensions within Karnataka's administrative and political spheres.
