Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Thursday, seeking central assistance to bolster the state's law and order infrastructure. The meeting focused on several key proposals aimed at enhancing police modernisation, internal security, cybercrime prevention, training facilities, and prison modernisation.
Central Support for Police Modernisation
Shivakumar requested approval for a comprehensive plan to modernise the Karnataka police force. This includes upgrading equipment, improving forensic labs, and implementing advanced surveillance systems. The Chief Minister emphasised the need for central funding to expedite these projects, which are critical for maintaining public safety.
Internal Security and Cybercrime Prevention
Another major area of discussion was internal security. Shivakumar sought central assistance to strengthen intelligence-gathering mechanisms and counter-terrorism capabilities. He also highlighted the growing threat of cybercrime and requested support for setting up dedicated cybercrime units across the state.
Training Infrastructure and Prison Modernisation
The Chief Minister proposed upgrading police training academies to incorporate modern techniques and technologies. Additionally, he sought funds for prison modernisation, including better security infrastructure and rehabilitation programs for inmates.
The meeting comes amid concerns over rising crime rates in Karnataka. Shivakumar expressed confidence that central support would significantly enhance the state's ability to maintain law and order. Amit Shah assured the Chief Minister of the central government's cooperation and promised to review the proposals promptly.
This development underscores the ongoing collaboration between the state and central governments to address security challenges. Both leaders agreed to follow up on the proposals through official channels.
