Kapur Inheritance Row: Court Probes Will Authenticity as Priya Kapur Resists Forensic Test
Kapur Family Feud: Priya Opposes Will Forensics in Court

The ongoing legal tussle over the Kapur family fortune took a significant turn in the Delhi High Court, with the authenticity of the late Sunjay Kapur's Will coming under intense scrutiny. The proceedings, held before the Joint Registrar, focused sharply on the conduct of his third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, who is a key claimant to the estate.

Forensic Examination Becomes Central Point of Contention

During the hearing, the legal team representing Sunjay Kapur's children from his marriage to Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor—Samaira and Kiaan—formally requested the inspection and forensic analysis of the original Will document. This move aims to establish the legal paper's authenticity beyond doubt. Priya Sachdev Kapur, however, strongly objected to this request, resisting any such scientific examination of the document which forms the bedrock of her claim to the inheritance.

Legal experts observing the case noted that forensic tests are a standard legal tool to verify crucial documents in disputes. Priya Kapur's opposition to this routine procedure has, therefore, raised eyebrows and cast a deeper shadow of uncertainty over the Will itself.

Allegations of "False Narrative" and Corporate Record Disputes

The courtroom drama escalated as senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing for the plaintiffs (Karisma Kapoor's children), challenged what he termed a "false narrative" presented by Priya Kapur. He specifically contested her assertions regarding her involvement in the family-run companies following Sunjay Kapur's demise.

Jethmalani informed the court that claims of a "routine exchange of positions" between Priya Kapur and the late industrialist were misleading. He argued that these claims find no support in the official corporate records, suggesting a potential misrepresentation of facts.

Co-defendant Seeks to Amend Statement, Adding Another Layer

Adding complexity to the already convoluted case, the court also addressed an application filed by co-defendant Shradha Suri Marwah. She sought permission to amend her Written Statement after apparent discrepancies emerged between her version of events and that presented by Priya Sachdev Kapur.

The plaintiffs opposed this move, contending that it seemed like an attempt to correct contradictions only after they were brought to light in the legal proceedings. This development indicates potential fissures in the defence's unified front.

The case, which has captivated public attention, is scheduled for its next hearing on 20 January 2026.

Background of the Bitter Succession Battle

The inheritance dispute was triggered by the untimely death of Sunjay Kapur, the former chairman of auto-component giant Sona Comstar, in June 2025. His passing, following a reported heart attack amid rumours of a bizarre bee-sting incident, opened the floodgates to a fierce succession battle.

The core conflict is between his two children from his marriage to Karisma Kapoor and his third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur. The situation is further inflamed by accusations from Sunjay Kapur's mother, Rani Kapur, who has alleged that Priya is attempting to seize control of the sprawling family business empire. This multifaceted dispute continues to unfold dramatically, both within the confines of the courtroom and in the full glare of the public eye.
