A tragic incident on the Kanpur-Jhansi railway line has taken a controversial turn, with the family of a deceased 22-year-old youth accusing his girlfriend and her family of murder. The young man was run over by a train on Sunday night in the Govindnagar police station area.
Recovery at the Scene and Identification
Police officials who reached the spot sent the body for a post-mortem examination. Two mobile phones, a pair of earbuds, slippers, and a muffler were recovered from the railway tracks. The deceased was identified on Monday morning with the help of the mobile phones found at the scene.
When the youth did not report for work at the snack factory where he was employed on Monday, his supervisor tried calling him. The call was answered by Manish Singh, the in-charge of Ratanlal Nagar Police outpost, who informed the supervisor about the fatal incident. The supervisor then relayed the devastating news to the young man's family.
The Girlfriend's Account and Police Findings
During police questioning, the youth's girlfriend, who also worked at the same snack factory, provided her version of events. She stated that the young man was taking her shopping and they were walking along the railway line to avoid being seen when they were hit by a train. She claimed she fell into a ditch during the incident.
Police confirmed that one of the mobile phones recovered belonged to the deceased youth and the other to his girlfriend. Govind Nagar Inspector R K Singh revealed that the autopsy report showed injuries on the youth's legs, shoulder, and head.
Murder Allegations and Next Steps
The victim's family has outright rejected the girlfriend's narrative and has accused her and her family of being involved in his murder. This serious allegation has added a complex layer to the case.
Inspector R K Singh stated that the police will conduct a thorough investigation based on a formal complaint. Further legal action will be determined by the evidence gathered and other necessary findings. The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to the young man's death.
