In a significant crackdown on cyber crime, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force has arrested a woman from Kanpur for allegedly honey trapping government officials and extorting money from them. The accused, identified as Ritu Pandey, was taken into custody following a detailed investigation into her activities.
The Modus Operandi of the Honey Trap
According to police officials, Ritu Pandey used social media platforms and dating applications to connect with government employees working in various departments. She would initiate conversations and build relationships with these officials before moving to the extortion phase of her operation.
The accused employed sophisticated methods to gather compromising information and materials from her targets. She would then use this collected evidence to blackmail the officials, threatening to expose them unless they paid substantial amounts of money.
