A significant fire erupted in a garment shop located within Kanpur's bustling P Road Market on Sunday, causing substantial damage to the establishment. The blaze originated in a three-storey building, creating a dangerous situation for residents and nearby businesses.
Family's Harrowing Escape from the Blaze
A family of four residing on the building's second floor found themselves trapped as smoke rapidly filled their living space. Aarti Pandey, along with her three-year-old son Atharv, was the first to notice the danger and rushed downstairs. Her husband Aman followed closely behind, assisting his elderly mother Anju Pandey to safety.
Aarti described the terrifying scene, stating that flames were visible in all directions as they made their desperate escape. Aman reported that upon reaching the ground floor, he observed the fire originating near the shop's electricity meter, with the blaze spreading aggressively throughout the premises.
Immediate Evacuation and Fire Brigade Response
The fire prompted swift evacuation of adjacent shops, including a nearby blanket store, as customers and shop owners fled to safety. Chief Fire Officer Deepak Sharma confirmed that fire brigade vehicles were dispatched immediately upon receiving the emergency call.
"Three firefighting vehicles worked in coordination to combat the flames," stated CFO Sharma. "Thanks to the rapid response, no casualties were reported, and we successfully prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring establishments."
Complete Destruction of Shop Goods
According to shop owner Naveen Kukreja, the fire resulted in total destruction of all merchandise stored within the garment shop. The incident has caused significant financial loss for the business, though the safe evacuation of all individuals involved remains the primary relief from this dangerous situation.
