Kanpur Father Murders Twin Daughters in Horrific Cartoon TV Dispute
In a shocking incident in Kanpur's Kidwai Nagar area, an 11-year-old twin sisters' refusal to switch off a cartoon program led to their brutal murder by their own father. The accused, Shashi Ranjan Mishra, a 48-year-old sales manager at a pharmaceutical company, allegedly killed his daughters early Sunday morning after coming home drunk.
Details of the Tragic Event
Police reported that Mishra returned home intoxicated on Sunday night and demanded his daughters stop watching cartoons. Despite promising them a trip to the theatre for a cartoon film, the girls, both Class 5 students, refused to comply. In a fit of alleged rage, Mishra strangled and slit their throats after sedating them. The bodies were discovered lying in a pool of blood in their room.
DCP Deependra Nath Chaudhary stated that every aspect of the case is under thorough investigation. Surprisingly, police noted that the incident could not have been a spontaneous act of anger. Mishra had purchased the weapon used in the crime four or five days earlier, indicating meticulous planning.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Mishra called Dial-112 around 4:30 am to report the crime, saying, "I have killed my children. Please come." When police arrived, the door was locked, and his wife, Reshma Kshetri, 40, opened it after hearing the bell. Upon learning of her husband's call, she rushed to the room and found her daughters dead with Mishra sitting beside them.
He was arrested from the scene. The twins were buried in the local graveyard on Sunday evening with police and local assistance, in the presence of their mother.
Background of the Accused
Mishra, who often came home drunk and misbehaved with his wife, had installed six CCTV cameras throughout their two-bedroom flat for family safety. Cameras were placed in the drawing room, kitchen, bedroom, lobby, and two outside the flat for protection against outsiders. This security measure contrasts starkly with the violent crime that unfolded within.
Police are continuing to probe the motives and circumstances, emphasizing the premeditated nature of the act based on the weapon purchase timing.
