Kanpur Police Sub-Inspector Remains Fugitive in Teen Gang Rape Case

More than a month has passed since a 14-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gang raped in the Sachendi area of Kanpur, yet one of the primary accused, a police sub-inspector, continues to evade arrest. The accused officer has been identified as Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar Maurya, who is currently posted at the Bithoor Police Station.

Details of the Alleged Crime

The incident occurred in Sachendi, a locality within Kanpur. According to police reports, the victim, a class 7 dropout, was allegedly abducted around 10 PM in a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle. She was reportedly taken to a deserted stretch near a railway track, where she was subjected to sexual assault for nearly two hours. The assailants left her unconscious outside her home following the brutal attack.

Police Investigation and Actions

Based on the teenager's statement, an FIR was filed naming Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar Maurya and YouTuber Shivbaran Yadav as accused. While Yadav has been arrested, Maurya remains absconding despite extensive efforts by law enforcement.

Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal stated in January that four special teams were formed specifically to trace the missing officer. The Mahindra Scorpio SUV allegedly used in the crime, which police claim belongs to Maurya, has been seized as evidence. Investigators have confirmed that Maurya was present in the Sachendi area at the time of the alleged incident.

Disciplinary Measures Against Senior Officers

The handling of this sensitive case has resulted in significant disciplinary action against senior police officials. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Dinesh Chandra Tripathi has been removed from his position, while Sachendi Station House Officer Vikram Singh has been suspended. These actions reflect the seriousness with which authorities are treating the case and the alleged failures in the initial investigation.

Family Accusations Against Police

The victim's family has leveled serious allegations against local police, accusing them of attempting to shield the accused officer. The girl's brother claimed that when they initially approached police and mentioned a policeman's involvement, officers turned them away without proper action.

He further alleged that the girl's mobile phone was seized by authorities and that she was not permitted to return home until her court statement had been officially recorded. These accusations have raised questions about police conduct and transparency in handling cases involving their own personnel.

The case continues to develop as authorities intensify their search for the absconding sub-inspector while addressing the serious allegations of police misconduct that have emerged during the investigation.
