Kallakurichi Murder Case: Wife Sets Husband on Fire in Shocking Crime
In a horrifying incident in Kallakurichi, a case of murder cleverly disguised as suicide has been uncovered, sending shockwaves through the community. The crime came to light after police recovered crucial CCTV footage that contradicted initial claims by the wife, revealing a deliberate and brutal act of violence.
CCTV Footage Exposes Wife's Heinous Act
The victim, identified as Antony Robin, a 26-year-old resident of Mamandal Road who worked at a gas company in the Chinnathirupathi area of Salem, was at home over the weekend. In the early hours of Sunday, he was seen screaming and running out of his house, completely engulfed in flames. Initially, his wife, Ammu, told authorities that Antony had doused himself with petrol in a drunken state to end his own life. Neighbors rushed him to the Kallakurichi government hospital, from where he was transferred to Salem hospital for advanced treatment. Despite receiving medical attention, Antony succumbed to his injuries, having suffered a devastating 90% burns.
The investigation took a dramatic and chilling turn when police examined CCTV footage from the vicinity. The video clearly showed Antony stepping out of the house, realizing he had petrol on his body, and attempting to wipe it off. Ammu was seen following him outside and deliberately flicking a lighter or match to set him ablaze before quickly retreating inside. After committing this heinous act, she allegedly staged a "drama," maintaining the false narrative that her husband had taken his own life due to intoxication.
Motive Linked to Domestic Dispute and Extramarital Affair
Antony and Ammu had been married for several years and have three children—two sons and a daughter. According to preliminary police inquiries, the motive behind this brutal murder appears to stem from a severe domestic dispute linked to an extramarital affair. Antony had reportedly discovered that Ammu was in a relationship with her sister's husband. He had repeatedly warned her to end the affair, leading to frequent and intense quarrels between the couple.
On Saturday night, taking advantage of Antony's intoxicated state, Ammu allegedly poured petrol on him while he was indoors. When he ran outside in an attempt to clean himself, she followed and set him on fire, as captured in the damning CCTV evidence. The Kallakurichi police have registered a formal case and are currently interrogating Ammu based on this incriminating digital proof.
Police Investigation Underway
Kallakurichi Superintendent of Police S Aravind stated that the police have launched a detailed investigation and are actively collecting additional evidence to build a strong case. This tragic incident highlights the dark undercurrents of domestic conflicts and the lengths to which individuals may go to conceal their crimes. The community remains in shock as authorities work to ensure justice for Antony Robin.
